Our Top Overall Pick

The Dolphin Premier robotic pool cleaner is the best choice for in-ground pool owners. It features two motors, leaves the pool sparkling clean with full coverage to the waterline, and comes with a 3-year warranty.

The Dolphin Premier features increase cleaning performance, reduce energy consumption, and simplify pool maintenance for pool owners.

We love the CleverClean navigation software.

The Dolphin Premier uses a more efficient cleaning method than cheaper robot cleaners that navigate the pool randomly. It cleans the pool efficiently and does not repeatedly go over the same areas.

It cleans the pool quicker (a complete deep clean takes just 3 hours), saving you a lot of energy.

The Premier is equipped with multiple tools that help to remove dirt and other debris.

The vacuums onboard can easily remove dirt and debris suspended in the water. The pair of scrubbing brushes are what tackles hard-to-reach algae and scale on the pool floor and walls.

Two large filter cartridges collect all the debris. The first filter captures small particles like bugs and pebbles, while the second filter fine particles of sand or silt.

These two filters can be swapped for a bag (included) if the pool is full of leaves, acorns, and other large debris.

The filter access is located at the bottom of the screen, making it challenging to remove filters.

The Dolphin Premier includes a few extra features to make your life easier. It has a weekly scheduler, which allows you set an auto-cleaning schedule and a filter indicator.

All this comes at a steep price, admittedly. We, as well as most customers, believe it’s worthwhile.

Most Reliable

The Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus is an excellent option if you don’t have the budget for a Dolphin but still need a pool cleaner that can remove the toughest of grime.

This model has been around for over ten years and just keeps getting better. It’s a proven workhorse, even though it lacks the coverage of more expensive units.

It is cheaper than most in-ground Dolphin pool cleaners but still has premium features such as smart navigation, active brushing, and a weekly scheduler.

What’s the catch?

There is no catch, honestly – the NautilusCC Plus cleans just as well as other Dolphins. It can even scrub up to the waterline.

The major limitation is that the CC Plus only cleans smaller pools.  The Premier and other top-of-the-line models can clean pools up to 50 feet long, whereas the Nautilus CC Plus can handle inground pools up to 33 feet in length.

This still covers the majority of residential pools, which measure 16ft by 32ft.

CleverClean is used by the Nautilus CC Plus to quickly and efficiently navigate the pool. It covers the floor, climbs up walls and scrubs, and vacuums debris.

This scrubbing brush rotates faster than the pool robots, giving it more power to clean stubborn dirt. Maytronics calls this Active Brushing.

The large filter basket captures most of the debris. In addition, the cleaner is top-loaded, meaning you don’t need to flip it over to reach it.

The standard filter media with this unit does not remove all the silt and sand from the water. For thorough cleaning, we recommend the Dolphin Ultrafine Filter Basket.

Use the original basket when the pool gets extra dirty and the fine one for daily cleaning.

Like the Premier, the Nautilus CC Plus has a handy weekly scheduler that includes three auto-cleaning settings – daily (two times a week) and 3x a workweek (three times a week).

Best For Above Ground Pools

The Dolphin Escape is a high-powered pool cleaner suitable for an above-ground pool.

But unlike most other robot vacuums for above ground pools, this model offers the best cleaning performance and power in its class.

The majority of above-ground robot pool cleaners have only the most basic features.

The Dolphin Escape is essentially a smaller version of the in-ground Dolphin models. It comes with all the advanced cleaning features and cleaning capabilities.

The SmartNav 2.0 system is an intelligent navigation system that ensures complete pool coverage and avoids energy wastage by random movements.

The Dolphin Escape has an onboard scrubber, unlike most robotic cleaners above ground that rely on suction.

It’s more than just any brush. This brush is active and dual-brushing. It rotates faster than other pool robots and helps to tackle the most difficult dirt.

The large, top-loading filter basket holds all debris in the pool and is easy to clean.

The Ultra-Fine Dolphin filter bag is available for purchase with the Dolphin Escape. The filter basket does not catch large or small particles but leaves fine sand and silt in your water.

The Dolphin Escape can move on Hypergrip Continuous tracks, which offer better mobility than wheeled.

It mainly cleans the floors, just like other above-ground pool robots. However, in some pools, it can climb walls.

The Dolphin Escape is a pool cleaner that’s more impressive than what you would expect. This explains why the price tag is higher than others in this class.

Best Value

If you’re looking for an inexpensive Dolphin robot cleaner for your standard-sized pool, the Dolphin Advantage is a great choice.

The Dolphin Advantage, like the Nautilus CC Plus, is designed for in-ground pools of up to 33 feet.

The two models actually have very similar features. The main differences are that the Advantage was launched one year later than the Nautilus CC Plus and it comes with a slightly better swivel cable design that doesn’t get tangled as easily.  That said, the Advantage is hard to find online and in retail stores.

The Dolphin Advantage comes with several impressive features not found in high-end Dolphin Models.

CleverClean Technology is one of them. It scans the pool to ensure that the robot follows the best cleaning path.

The Advantage uses an active brush and a powerful vacuum on board for cleaning.

The debris gets trapped in a large top-loading filter basket. It has the same limitations as the Nautilus CC Plus – it doesn’t pick up fine particles. To do that you’ll need to upgrade to the Dolphin Ultra Fine filter basket.

If you spend most of the day away from home, the Advantage includes a weekly schedule.

Overall, this is pretty good robot pool cleaner for the price.

Best Connected Cleaner

There has yet to be an Alexa-compatible robotic pool cleaner.

When it comes to connectivity, the farthest they go is a remote control. The Dolphin Triton Plus takes connectivity one step further by letting you control the system via Wi-Fi from anywhere in the world if you want.

You can connect your smartphone to the robot and control it via the MyDolphin App. If the robot is not yet in your pool, you can schedule weekly cleanings and choose from a variety of cycle options.

The app can also be used to spot clean. You can also use the app to control the robot cleaner, so it cleans specific missed areas.

You may experience some difficulties when connecting to Wi-Fi and using the app. However, the app is easy to use.

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of connecting your cleaner to your router or downloading the app, you can just use the control panel on the power unit.

You can access all controls from the control panel. You can choose to have your auto-cleaning scheduled daily, every two or three days.

You can also use the quick clean button to clean your pool in under an hour.

The Dolphin Titon PS Plus uses active brushing to remove any debris from the pool floor. The dirt then gets emptied into a large top-loading filter basket.

The basket is dual-filtered, trapping leaves, large debris, and fine particles like sand, silt, and sand.

Triton PS Plus does more than just vacuum the pool floor. It can also climb the wall to scrub up to the waterline.

The Dolphin Triton PS+ is an excellent choice for pool owners who can remotely control their robot pool cleaner.

Most Powerful

The Dolphin Oasis Z5i, one of the most powerful and most expensive Dolphin models.

It’s a great choice for pool owners who need a high-performance cleaner for their in-ground pool (up to 50 ft).

It has all the features that you would expect from a high-end pool robot.

Bluetooth remote control is one of the Oasis’ unique features. However, this should not be the main reason for you to buy the OasisZ5i. This feature is similar to the Bluetooth feature in Triton PS Plus, but it’s also tedious. It is necessary to be close to the connection. The response lag can make manual navigation difficult.

That aside, there are many reasons why the Oasis Z5i is worth the price.

Your pool will sparkle with the power of dual scrubbing brushes and powerful suction.

The robot moves on large, high-traction tracks and covers nearly every inch of your pool to the waterline.

A dual drive motor operates each track independently. This increases mobility and navigation, particularly in tight areas. It also enhances pool coverage.

The swivel cable prevents the cord from becoming tangled as the robot moves.

The Oasis Z5i, like most Dolphin pool robots, comes with a weekly planner. So depending on how dirty your pool is, you can set the robot to automatically clean it every two or three days.

We think that the Dolphin Oasis Z5i is a great in-ground pool cleaner, even though it lacks a truly usable Bluetooth feature.

Another downside is the robot’s weight. It is hard to lift the robot out of the water at 24 lbs and transport it from one place to another.

The Dolphin pool cleaner caddy is highly recommended. This will make it easier to clean the robot and protect the brush rollers when the robot is placed on the ground.

Best Commercial Cleaner

We recommend the Dolphin Odyssey if you need to clean a busy public or commercial swimming pool at a spa, sports club, or hotel.  Or if you regularly teach swimming or host events in your own large pool.

In fact, the Odyssey is specifically designed for commercial inground swimming pools.

Three high-RPM DC motors deliver plenty of power for the tracks, brushes, and vacuum.

The triple motor design increases the torque and allows the robot to navigate the pool and climb walls without getting stuck.

SmartNav 3.0 pool scanning is used by the Odyssey. The Odyssey also has an integrated gyroscope that allows for efficient navigation around the pool.

The Odyssey uses SmartNav 3.0 pool scanning and an integrated gyroscope to navigate efficiently around the pool.

The triple scrubbing brush removes all dirt and grime from the pool floor and walls.

A dual filtration basket captures both fine and very fine debris.

Best For Extra Large Pools

The Dolphin C5 is recommended for commercial pools with large dimensions used in pools up to 88 feet in length. This pool is longer than an Olympic-size one.

Robotic pool cleaners require a lot of intelligence and power. However, the Dolphin C5 can handle the job.

CleverClean Technology scans your pool to determine the best cleaning method and identify any missed spots.

An onboard gyroscope allows the robot to determine its position and orientation at all times. This is useful when maneuvering in tight spaces or climbing up walls.

The robot’s movements in the pool cause heavy-duty dual scrub brushes to remove algae, scale, and other debris. They clean the waterline, walls, and floor.

The vacuum collects the particles into large, fine, and ultrafine filter bags. The control panel has a full-filter indicator that tells you when it is time to clean your filters.

Filter bags can be more difficult to clean than filter baskets, but they are better at holding dirt. It is a good idea to have a few spares in case you need them.

You can use the remote control to manually navigate the robot around any missing spots.

Depending on the type of cleaning you need, there are three options: a 4-hour, 6-hour, or 8-hour cleaning cycle.

The enhanced cycle can be used for pool cleaning overnight, while the fast cycle is good when you need to clean the pool quickly before guests arrive.

The Dolphin C5 is equipped with a caddy for easy storage and transport.

Best Price

We recommend the Dolphin E10 robotic swimming pool cleaner if you’re on a tight budget. This robotic pool cleaner is one of the most affordable at less than $500.

Although the Dolphin E10 is designed for cleaning above-ground pools of up to 30 feet in length, it is suitable for cleaning the floor only of any in-ground pool.

Although it has very basic features, the E10 is extremely effective in cleaning pools. The E10 has a scrubbing bristle that removes algae and other debris from the pool floor.

The powerful suction collects floating debris and deposits them into the large, top-accessible filter basket. So you don’t have to deal with messy bags.

The Dolphin ultra-fine filter basket is highly recommended to capture all algae and other fine debris. The basket can leave small pieces of silt and sand at the bottom.

It takes approximately 1.5 hours for the Dolphin E10 to clean the pool. It does not scrub or vacuum the floor. It is not intended to climb walls, particularly 90-degree walls. However, the robot might climb a portion of your pool wall if it is partially curved.

The 2-year warranty on the Dolphin E10 is included so that you can rest assured it will last.

Best Cleaning Performance

The Dolphin Sigma robotic pool cleaner is an excellent choice if you suffer from sticky or stubborn debris and need an especially deep cleaner.

Although it is more expensive (similar to Polaris’ best robot vacuum, the P9550), the Dolphin Sigma robotic pool cleaner cleans your pool far better than most.

The triple motor configuration of the Dolphin Sigma makes it so great. Two scrubbing brush motors drive the three motors, which power two brushes to remove algae and dirt from the pool’s walls, floor, and waterline.

It also has powerful suction that allows it to pick up any debris in the water. It cleans your pool quickly with its 4,500 gallons per hour flow rate.

The Dolphin Sigma has both a fine filter and an ultra-fine filter. This means that you don’t have to purchase additional filters to catch all the debris from your pool.

You can access the filter basket from the top. It is large and easy to empty.

The Sigma can handle pools up to 50 feet in length, as expected from a Dolphin robot pool cleaner. In addition, Sigma’s 60-foot swivel cable gives full coverage and avoids tangling.

Dolphin Sigma comes with smart navigation, which allows it to quickly and efficiently clean the pool without leaving any spots. The robot’s navigation system also includes a gyroscope that makes it easier to clean the walls.

It struggles to clean the pool steps. However, this is not a problem with all pool robots. Many pool owners have also reported that it can sometimes get stuck on drains and ladders.

There are two methods to control the Sigma robotic pool cleaner. The control panel located on the power unit is the easiest. You can switch the cleaner on and off and schedule daily weekly, or bi-weekly cleanings.

Another option is to use the Dolphin smartphone application. Sigma is Bluetooth-connected, so you can connect it to your smartphone and control it through the app. You can program cleanings or even control the robot to do spot cleaning.

You need to be close to the cleaner, and the response time lag makes it difficult to steer correctly. The app is often buggy, according to many users. The control panel is likely to be your best option.

The Dolphin Sigma’s exceptional cleaning performance is worth the price. However, we would have loved to see a storage/transport caddy.

Why Buy a Dolphin Pool Cleaner?

Dolphin Pool Cleaners

Dolphin pool cleaners are more expensive than any other robotic pool cleaners on the market. So why should you pay more for a Dolphin pool robot? These are five good reasons.

  • Longevity and reliability: Maytronics has been manufacturing robotic pool cleaners since the 1970s. They are well-known for making reliable, long-lasting products. They are low-maintenance and have a long service life. Your Dolphin pool cleaner can last for 5-7 years if you take good care of it.
  • Excellent build quality: Dolphin pools cleaners rarely cause problems that require constant repairs. The robot’s components and parts are all well-made and last as long as the robot. Even motors, which are a common failure point in robotic pool cleaners, do not fail.
  • Superior cleaning performance: Regardless of whether you choose the budget-friendly E10 or the more expensive Sigma, all Dolphin pool cleaners offer exceptional cleaning performance. All models have powerful suction and scrubbing brushes. Smart navigation allows them to quickly and efficiently clean your entire pool.
  • Great value for money: The Dolphin pool cleaners offer the best value even though they are expensive. They are easy to clean, last a long time, and can be maintained easily. You can also get better deals with the less expensive models Maytronics introduced, like the Dolphin Escape.
  • Simple to maintain: Most Dolphin pool cleaners prefer filter baskets over debris bags. It is easy to empty and remove baskets from the cleaner. The basket can be cleaned quickly with a hose, and it doesn’t need to dry. You don’t even need to flip the robot over to get the basket out of the cleaner.

Dolphin Pool Cleaners - Common Issues

Dolphin pool cleaners are as good as they sound. However, there are some things you need to be aware of before buying one. These issues aren’t just for Dolphin pool cleaners. Other robotic pool cleaners also have them.

  • Trouble cleaning steps: Even expensive Dolphin models have trouble cleaning steps thoroughly. You’ll have to scrub those yourself.
  • Getting stuck at the drain: This is another problem you will find in most robot cleaners.
  • No ultra-fine filter. Most low-cost and mid-range Dolphin cleaners come with regular and fine filters media. They capture the majority of debris but leave some algae and fine sand at the bottom. Ultra-fine filters must be purchased separately.

Selecting the Right Dolphin Pool Cleaner: A Guide

Dolphin Pool Cleaners

There are many Dolphin models, and they all share the same features. Therefore, it is hard to find the perfect Dolphin pool cleaner.

Here is a checklist to help you choose the right Dolphin pool cleaner.

Pool Type: In-Ground Vs. Above Ground

There are two main types of Dolphin pool robots.

In-ground pools tend to be larger and more costly. These range from in-ground pool cleaners that can clean pools up to 33ft long to heavy-duty commercial pool robotics that can clean pools up to 121ft.

Above-ground pool cleaners are usually smaller and lighter than other types. These cleaners are meant for pools up to 30ft long.

Pool Size

Not every Dolphin in-ground pool cleaner cleans the same size pools. This is also true for their above-ground pool cleaners.

Make sure you check the dimensions.

The majority of Dolphin pool cleaners are suitable for pools that are 50ft or more. There are also smaller options for 33ft or more pools and commercial cleaners for pools over 100ft.

You must buy the right pool cleaner for your pool size.

A pool cleaner that is too big will not work and may cause damage to the cord.

Type Debris: Filter Choice

Dolphin Pool Cleaners

Check to see if the pool cleaner has a filter bag, basket, or filter cartridge.

It is much easier to maintain and clean a filter basket. In addition, a filter bag is more effective if you have to deal with large debris, like leaves or acorns.

You can interchange the filters on some Dolphin cleaners.

You should also check if the cleaner has an ultra-fine filter.

Others come with a very fine filter that doesn’t catch silt and sand. You have to buy the ultra-fine filter separately.

Other filters include both ultra-fine and fine filters that go into the cleaner together.

Amount Of Debris: Bin Size

If you have a dirty pool or if you have a large one, ensure that your Dolphin of Choice has enough filters to not have to empty it mid-cleaning.

Stairs And Complex Surfaces

It is difficult to find a Dolphin cleaner with 100% pool coverage. They fail to clean the stairs.

You should look for one that cleans the first two to three steps (read customer reviews to find out how they navigate the steps).

Dolphin cleaners that use smart navigation and gyroscopic mapping are better at cleaning stairs and complex areas like corners, under ladders, and around pool features.

You should definitely get a Dolphin pool scanning software such as CleverClean and SmartNav if you have an irregularly-shaped pool.

This will have better coverage and be cleaner faster.

Budget

The Dolphin cleaners from Aquabot are usually more expensive than the ones from other brands like Aquabot. However, they come in a variety of price points to fit every budget.

Above-ground Dolphin cleaners usually cost less than $500.

You can also get an in-ground Dolphin cleaner for smaller pools (up to 33ft) for around the same price. It is also available for about the same price. However, you’ll need a cleaner capable of cleaning larger pools (up to 50ft), which costs you between $700 and $1,000.

Spend over $1,000 to get the best Dolphin robot cleaner.

Commercial pool cleaners are available at a premium price ($2,000+).

Extra Features

Dolphin Pool Cleaners

These are just a few of the additional features you should look out for.

  • The remote control is helpful for spot cleaning.
  • Bluetooth connectivity is usually not worth the extra cost.
  • Caddy to transport and store the power unit and robot easily
  • Filter indicator.
  • Weekly scheduler.
  • Multiple cycle options available – e.g., 1hr, 1.5hrs, and 3hrs.

Dolphin Pool Cleaning FAQ

Dolphin Pool Cleaners

How Do You Install A Dolphin Pool Cleaner?

Dolphin pool cleaners don’t require any installation. There are no hoses to connect. Simply connect the power unit with a GFCI outlet and then drop the cleaner in the pool.

Robot pool cleaners are self-contained and come with a motor, vacuum, brush, and battery. It does not rely on your pool filter or pump.

Where Can I Buy A Dolphin Pool Cleaner?

Many online retailers like Amazon carry a large selection of Dolphin models. However, prices and selection may be greater at your local pool shop.

What Does A Dolphin Pool Cleaner Do?

The Dolphin robot cleaners come with brushes to clean the pool floor and walls and a vacuum that collects the dirt in an onboard bag or filter basket.

Advanced Dolphin cleaners use software to scan the pool and determine the best cleaning route.

What Is The Cost Of A Dolphin Pool Cleaner?

The prices for Dolphin robot pool cleaners start at $300 and go up to $2,000. The cheapest cleaners for above-ground pools are those that are used in commercial pools.

For as low as $600-$1,300, you can buy a reliable and high-quality in-ground Dolphin pool cleaner.

Why Did My Dolphin Pool Cleaner Stop Working?

The most common problem halting the movement of your Dolphin cleaner is often something stuck in the tracks or brushes.

Remove the robot from the water and inspect it for obstructions.

Also check to see if the basket or filter bag is full as that can cause the robots to stop working.

You can refer to the manual’s troubleshooting section if you can identify the problem or call customer service. This could be a more severe issue, such as motor failure.

Can I Leave My Dolphin Pool Cleaner In The Pool?

If you use the weekly scheduler to automate cleaning, leaving the pool cleaner is a good idea.

It’s safe for most Dolphin models to leave in the pool, but only for a few hours at a stretch. Too long in the pool will cause damage to some parts.

Take the robot out of your pool every other day to empty the filter. Dry it off.

The cleaner should not be left in the pool during the winter months when the pool is closed.

How Long Did Dolphin Pool Cleaners Last?

All Dolphin pool cleaners are durable and well-built. In addition, these cleaners have longer warranties than other pool robots (1 year).

Your Dolphin cleaner should last between 5-8 years if you maintain it well and replace any worn parts as soon as possible.

Your pool cleaner’s lifespan depends on how often you clean it and the water chemistry.

May I Use A Dolphin Pool Cleaner In A Hot Tub Or Pond?

No, Dolphin pool cleaners are meant for use in swimming pools only.

What Are The Best Accessories For A Dolphin Pool Cleaner?

  • Caddy allows for easy storage and transport.
  • If your model does not come with one, you can get an ultra-fine filter basket.
  • Covers for protecting the robot and power unit from dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Additional filter bags are available if your model uses a bag in place of a basket.
